lidded tin can

sandpaper

primer

dark red paint

yellow paint

black paint

Sharpie marker or paint pen

bristle brush

clear varnish (optional)

Directions:

Lightly sand the surface of the popcorn tin so paint will adhere to the metal better, then wipe clean.

Put a coat of primer on.

Paint lid black and let dry.

Paint can with dark red paint and let dry.

Paint yellow stripe on top section of can. Sometimes the popcorn tins have metal ridges on the top section. If so, use this as a loose guide for your yellow stripe.

Write out the word "BIRDSEED" on a piece of paper or click on this image to download a page you can print out and enlarge on a photocopier.

Place paper over the yellow stripe on can and trace lettering on can pressing firmly with a ball point pen.

When you remove the paper you will be able to see a slight indent where you pressed hard through the paper.

Trace over the indented letters with a black Sharpie marker or paint pen.

Dry brush can with dark brown paint (be careful not to put too much paint on the brush).

Apply WALLIES®.

Clear coat with a matte or clear varnish if you like.
